The Manchester United legend reflects on another outstanding performance from Diego Costa
Gary Neville says Diego Costa is a brilliant player when the striker is in the right mood after Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The Spain international scored his eighth Premier League goal of the 2016-17 season after the controversial centre-forward curled a superb shot past England and Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
Costa’s goal added to Eden Hazard’s superb opener to help Antonio Conte’s side extended their winning run in the Premier League to four games following victories over Hull City, Manchester United, Leicester City and the Saints.
Former Manchester United defender Neville was full of praise for the 28-year-old striker after another influential performance in a Chelsea shirt under his new Italian manager.
“He is a brilliant player to have in your team when he is playing like he has [on Sunday],” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He is a handful up front. He is defending for the team. He headed three or four balls out of his own box as well.”
Costa has scored eight times in 10 Premier League games this season to leave the Spanish forward at the top of the goal-scoring charts ahead of Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero and Everton’s in-form Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian forward will line up against his former club Chelsea when Everton make the trip to Stamford Bridge next weekend.
