South African pop star AKA and reggae king Patoranking put their creative minds together to create a hit song, Special Fi Mi, in the Coke Studio. And it seems UK fans are loving it.
After having spent 48 hours working with producer Gospelondebeatz, who also produced Patoranking’s No Kissing, AKA and Patoranking came up with a track that not only boasts a unique combination of string sound and guitar, but is also burning up dance floors across the world.
Soon after its release, Special Fi Mi made it onto the BBC Xtra playlist, before making it all the way up to number one on DJ Edu’s DNA chart show..
During the creative process in the Coke Studio, things got tricky when AKA wanted his rap to be on an Afrobeat, while Patoranking thought it sounded better on a ‘trap’.’ It was the first time that the two stars clashed during their 48 hours together.
